He probably doesn't celebrate it these days.... if he ever did!

He was born on 29th November 1898, 108 years ago.

…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

Happy Anniversary, Stanley and Angelee!!

Last night (29th) was the institution of our new vicar, and one of the first people I saw when I arrived for it was the man who'd introduced me to Lewis and Tolkien 32 years ago!
"Hello," I said, as if I saw him every day. "Do you know whose birthday it is today?" He didn't. Never mind, his recommendation has been a great blessing to me all those years. In fact, 32 years ago I was reading LOTR for the first time, (university holidays) and was about to receive the Narnia corpus for Christmas.

"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best -- " and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.

Our local theatre society is currently presenting a production of Shadowlands. It's very well acted, and of course one needs a few hankies at the end.

I was delighted to know they would do it, and my contribution is to run a small book table of Lewis books for sale.
