Well, you'd better read the Space Trilogy next if you haven't read it already (and if you have, it's always fun to read again! -- as are all his books:-)
(The Space Trilogy is composed of three separate books -- not required to read in order, but best if you do -- Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength)
A special edition of A Severe Mercy was the fist gift I gave my (then to be future) wife 25 years ago. Have you heard of the follow-up book called "Under the Mercy" about Vanauken's conversion to Catholicism? There is also another book of shorter pieces called "The Little Lost Marion and other Mercies" in which he talks about meeting up, many years later, with the woman that Davy had given up for adoption before meeting Van (he didn't mention that at all in the first book -- it is a touching story in itself)

…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.
