Only extant audio of a CSL broadcast talk

Only extant audio of a CSL broadcast talk

Postby larry gilman » 25 Jan 2009, 12:40

Perhaps this is old news to many, but I was excited yesterday to discover that one can hear the only known recording of CSL giving a broadcast talk -- the WWII-era radio talks that were later written up as three small books and then welded into Mere Christianity -- on the BBC's website:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/christianity/people/cslewis_16.shtml

The BBC states,

"This is the only surviving footage of C.S. Lewis's broadcast talks. The New Men is the last episode in Beyond Personality, the third series. It was broadcast on BBC radio on 21st March 1944."

The site also has 1:57 min of Lewis talking about The Great Divorce.

Carol,

Thanks for the tip. It's great to be able to hear a little of the Four Loves recording without having to pony up $30 for a CD.

On the CD I refer to, there is also audio of Lewis giving some talks -- audio not available anywhere else, so far as I know, even on-line:

C.S. Lewis Speaks His Mind - This rare recording of Lewis' lecture on Bunyans The Pilgrim's Progress, an adaptation of "The Great Divide," and the introduction to The Great Divorce

This and Four Loves are on a CD set available from Episcopal Media Marketplace:

I'd buy, but what with the economy losing altitude with smoke pouring out of its engines, and me semi-unemployed and all, I've sworn off new books and CDs for the duration.

Regards,

Larry

You mean you've been here for over 4 years and you've never seen the audio files? I'm pretty sure I didn't shut the Wardrobe door.
