I suspect that the genre of the Chronicles is a parable, or a series of parables. Obviously the problem with that classification is that "Christian parable" has usually a rather specific sense, which would exclude the Chronicles.

Some authors, in particular Louis MacNeice, have used the word "parable" in a more extensive sense than the biblical anecdotal teachings.
