I learned what a blue bottle was in my favorite college course ever, "Insects: Prose and Poetry" with Tom Turpin in Purdue University's Entomology department. We would read literature and then see how the real insects compared to their poetic descriptions. And yes, some of my favorite insects are Lewis Carroll's "Looking Glass Insects."
