Everyone has their own prefered reading order. Some of us belong to a little club we call the 2456317 Club, meaning that we like to read the CON books in order of publication.
If you want more info , look in the FAQ on this site, .

And welcome to the Warbrobe! Glad to have you here! Enjoy reading CON!

…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

I'll re-re-re-iterate my own heretical view...

If reading for the first time.. read in the published order.. get a feel of how the stories developed.. the sense of mystery (so to speak) of just exactly WHAT is a LAMPOST doing there?

Then if one wishes.. read in the chronological order..

OR... be REALLY heretical and read them in one of the previously stated "heretic" orders.. to hain a TRUE sense of cyhronological ordering

or.. read them just in the order that mood takes one.. afterall.. they are writted in a way that makes each book an independent entity :)

And what about The Foundation trilogy?

Would those same people have waited until Robot Dawn et al were writted before reading them? And would Pebble in the Sky have be read first or after the Dawn of Empire part of the "trilogy"?
