People flock in, nevertheless, in search of answers to those questions only librarians are considered to be able to answer, such as "Is this the laundry?" "How do you spell surreptitious?" and, on a regular basis, "Do you have a book I remember reading once? It had a red cover and it turned out they were twins." ~Terry Pratchett, about libraries
And we shall reach zero at some point. :)

Except that it's not going to be mandatory reading, from what I can tell from the Just Read website. What it is is a state-sponsored contest for Florida schoolchildren where they can win prizes for projects with LW&W themes.

Here is the recommended reading list issued by the Just Read program. I don't think they're trying to push a Christian agenda.

When I was in 6th grade back in the 80's, LW&W actually was assigned reading in my (public school) class, with no mention made by teachers or anyone about it being a Christian allegory. But neither do I remember that there were any accusations that they were "subtly cramming" religion down schoolchildren's throats, at the behest of the "Christian commercial cabal."

Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

Fox News channel did a huge story on the upcoming film and the industry marketing to Christians. They interviewed Kirk Cameron and were connecting it with the Left Behind books and The Passion. Nothing like making it past watchful dragons...... Yeah, let's just slap a label on this baby that says: Caution. You're about to be converted.

It was annoying because I was in a restaurant and had to watch the whole thing without sound - sooooo, maybe it wasn't as bad as I first thought.
