My fear about Prince Caspian (movie)

Postby Lirenel » March 3rd, 2006, 5:40 am

I know it's silly. I can't imagine Gresham allowing it to happen. But I was recently thinking about what potential changes they may make for the movie. This led to a conversation with my eveil alter ego, Evil Skittle, who planted this fear in me (yes, it sounds strange, bear with me). Anyway, our conversation went like this:

Me: You know, I bet they won't stray too far from the book.
Evil Skittle: They didn't in the first movie, but now CoN is pretty famous. Who knows what they'll do.
Me: I'm ignoring you. I can't wait to see Peter battle Miraz.
E.S.: *snort* Like that's gonna happen!
Me: *looking at her warily* What do you mean?
E.S.: Hello? The movie's called Prince Caspian, not King Peter. And those movie types love fights between family members or people as close as family. Star Wars anyone?
Me: You're not saying...
E.S.: Duh! They're going to replace Peter with Caspian for more angst. He is the title character.
Me: But...
E.S.: You know I'm right
Me: But...
E.S.: Oh, she's gonna start blubbering. This'll be fun to watch.
Me: NNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
E.S.: BWAAAHHHAAAAAHAAAAA!!!!!!

So you see my dilemma. I have the horrible suspician that the movie people with replace Peter with Caspian in the duel against Miraz. I know it's unlikely, but it's late, I'm sick, and I just had a Cherry Coca-Cola which is up there with Mountain Dew and Skittles on the "makes Lirenel a little crazy" list. [/i]

I'll say it again...I don't lose sleep over this kind of stuff. It's not like anybody's changing the text of the books. ;)

Li, have you seen the film, The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe?

What did you think about its being true to the book?

Why do you think that degree of integrity would be radically lowered for Prince Caspian? Stop worrying! :)

Hi Lirinel. :)

Don't listen to Evil Skittle. ES has a warped point of view.

Peter has to fight Miraz in the climatic battle, because it is his last big scene in the entire series. Caspian will have plenty of time to prove his prowess in the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and even at the end of the Silver Chair, he's heartily swinging his sword. There's no reason at all to shortchange Peter - because it's his last hurrah, I would think they would rather make a big deal out of it.

Looking even further ahead, I think it would be really fun to have Peter and Susan appear in VotDT as cameos....Peter agonizing over difficult studies with Professor Kirke, while Susan explores America with their parents. Maybe they could have a shot of her gazing at the Statue of Liberty. :)

But it was no good trying to throttle this hope. It might - really, really, it just might be true. So many odd things had happened already." - from the magician's nephew
