I've always wondered that myself, as it does seem like a slight inconsistancy. However, here's a possibility - perhaps what determined whether the objects became invisible when they were in the Dufflepud's hands was the question of ownership, for example - they have their own swords and other weapons (presumably), but I'm presuming the dishes they held at the dinner table in the Magician's house didn't belong to any individual dufflepuds and that's why they didn't go invisible in their hands. Just a thought.

Good eye, A#! Actually, considering that Lewis wrote quickly, and rarely revised, it's surprising there aren't more inconsistencies like this one.

I did most of my Narnia reading at a young age, so I didn't notice it as "wrong" then--- but I like Pete's answer.

Also, the Narnia books are notoriously slipshod in this respect. But that's a part of their charm to me - they're not a "secondary world" in the Tolkien sense.

I tend to think of CoN not as being "slipshod", but more an opportunity for a Heretic to explore inside the cracks :read:

Opportunities for what?

I think Erekose means opportunities for heresy. :D
If there are inconsistencies in Lewis' writing (or anyone's writing), Erekose's massive brain begins to throb, and the result is another of the magnificent heresies that we have so grown to love and respect.
