Two things...

Postby Scott West » May 17th, 2006, 7:34 pm

The first thing is, has anyone else noticed that the "servent" or "right-hand-man" in all the books is always named 'Gilber,' or 'Dilber', I can't quite remember.
And the other thing is, does anyone have the quote, I'm almost positive it's from The Last Battle, I think Aslan says it, about how our (humans) world will come to an end. Thanks in advance...

Alright, well, like in TVOTDT, when they reach the Lone Islands, the governers main guards name is Dilber, or Gilber. He says "(D)Gilber, whats all that comotion out side. I'm trying to work." And he says, "It's a procesion." The same is true for at the beginging of TSC, when Trumpkin is finished with the whole "Useless, uncomonly guby man-cobs" deal, he says, "(D)Gilber, take me back to the caste. And Glimfeather, see that they are properly washed." I don't know, I haven't read the books in a few years, I have mainly been listening to the BBC Radio Theatre versions, which by the way are AMAZING, and I would recomend them to anyone.
Anyway, does anyone know about the second question I asked.

Well, having checked both books you mention for a Dilber or Gilber, I don't see any mention of these names - I suspect they appear only in the dramatizations. In VDT, it only says that Gumpas heard the noise in the streets; there is no conversation between him and his unnamed guard. In SC, the faun who attends Trumpkin is named Urnus - and Trumpkin does not ask to be taken back to the castle.

And I glanced quickly at the last few chapters in TLB, and I didn't see Aslan saying anything about our world ending, although Jill alludes to it when Narnia comes to an end. Again, it may be a difference between the book and the dramatization.

Now that I have built up enough self-esteem, I guess I am being rediculusly stupid. I suppose it is only in the dramatization of BBC's Focus on the Family version of the books that there is ever mentioned someone named Dilber. Sorry for the confusion and lack of sleep  this may have caused.
