…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

I appreciate your argument, although I still disagree. The number of one-to-one analogies still seem fairly few. And although it may be an interesting intellectual (and possibly spiritual) exercise to conject that the robin represents the Holy Spirit or that Lord Bern represents Churchill, such conjecture could just as easily lead to incorrect conclusions that would misrepresent Lewis's ideas.

Don't get me wrong. I've engaged in finding analogies in Lewis for my own use (I preached a sermon called "Rebirth at the River" once based on Jill and Aslan's confrontation at the beginning of Silver Chair. I've used Father Christmas as an illustration of the Holy Spirit as the giver of gifts. However, I'm not presuming that Lewis agreed with my Pentecostal theology.
