accusations

It just occurred to me to wonder, why hasn't anyone accused Lewis of anti-Caucasian because the villain in LWW is the White Witch?

And let's not even get into how the zebras feel about depicting Aslan as a lion!

Speaking of how zebras might feel about Aslan as a Lion--

Someone--I can't remember who, had an avatar a while back ago with a pic of Aslan and it said, "Jesus, with razor-sharp claws" or something like that.   I loved that. It's like those commercials that are so great for their own sake that you always remember the commercial--the rest of your life--but you can't figure out what it advertizes.

Really I had not thought about it, regarding the Witch. With the Calormenes, it really is a culture that is being caricatured, not so much an ethnic group. It strikes me more strongly when reading about the dark-skinned Southrons in LOTR--I do squirm a little with that. But Lewis treats these issues with a little humor and subtlety.

Yes. I think... I dunno what it is, so much. Perhaps the fact that it always seemed that they came with a 'primal' type reference?

It makes sense... sin is dark and innocence is white, but still. There's just something about it.

I've always found the "colonization" charges in Lewis' work to be slightly overblown and these people are reading things in the story that aren't there.

Besides, in Out of the Silent Planet the Weston and Devine, the two antagonists, have very imperialistic tendencies in their plans for Malacandra, which Ransom does not seem keen on. I suppose this could be used to show that Lewis does not like colonialism (though it could be about as out of context interpretaton as theirs).
