Actually, I haven't seen the BBC version of the story.
And, my brother and I have argued and argued about that Orieus scene. He says it's Orieus in the courtyard, and I say, no, it is a different Centaur. Because, at the moment he's turned into stone, he is plunging down, with his sword and head cocked back and to the side at the Witch, whom he just passed. However, the Centaur in the couryard has his sword cocked directly behind his head, and he's looking straight forward. I think the Centaur to Centaur scene switch was just trying to get continuity, without traumatizing people by actually seeing Orieus turned into stone.
"Well, you know how it feels if you begin hoping for something that you want desperately badly; you almost fight against the hope because it is too good to be true; you've been disappointed so often before. But it was no good trying to throttle this hope. It might - really, really, it just might be true. So many odd things had happened already." - from the magician's nephew
