Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

The professor does appear in one of the other books, however. But I'll let you find out where and how out for yourself. :read:

Hi Bmat!

I'm glad you've enjoyed the film and the book - and I hope you will read ALL the others.

I recommend the order you can see in some people's signatures -
it basically goes in publication order (see the FAQ for info).

Indeed! So much of the mystery and delight of the story is lost when you read in chronological order. It's like being told what your Christmas presents are before you unwrap them. DEFINITELY read them in Publication order. Since you read TLWW, you started out right! But if it has been a long time I recommend you start it again and then just continue on through to the end.

Messy, I SO agree! I loved the fact that I had to put the pieces together later on, it wasn't very difficult. That is more my personality though when presented with a story. I like to feel like I solved a mystery or made my brain work a little bit. I like the analogy of the christmas presents, so true for me.
