The Last Battle

I was wondering what your opinions were on the Last Battle? Personally, I think this book was a lot different from the others in the Chronicles. And another thing. Why was Eustace allowed into Narnia 3 times instead of the usual 2? I didn't find anything unusually spectacular about Eustace. And if Aslan is the one true god why is Tash real instead of just a statue?

There is no 'usual 2'.

Tash, in Narnia, holds a position analogous to Satan in our world.

Tash is a representation of Satan, just as Aslan represents Christ; and much as we would like to pretend otherwise, Satan is a very real and powerful presence in the world.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the usual 2." Both Lucy and Edmund got into Narnia three times. Whether or not they return to Narnia depends on the age of the character. Evidently Aslan thinks that when a child reaches a certain age they need to begin focusing on their own world, and finding their place in it, and discovering Who Aslan is in their own world.

What I meant by "usual two" was that all the other children who went to Narnia only went two times before they were considered "two old" to go to Narnia. The only exception was Eustace who went three times. In the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, in The Silver Chair and in The Last Battle. I wasn't counting the time when the others appeared as "ghosts" in the hut where Tash was.

I'm afraid you're mistaken, LP.

Please explain because I may be.

And I also apologize for my spelling error. I meant "too old" not "two old"

As A#Minor said in her post, how often one visited Narnia, Shadow or Real, has nothing to do with the number of visits, but rather the age of the visitor.

o.k. I see what you meant. But what I was really trying to say was why did Lewis use the character Eustace 3 times instead of someone with a better personality like say ahem. . . Lucy. :pleased:

heh. Perhaps Lewis wanted to center this part of the story on a more flawed person, hoping his readers would identify more.

I'm off to dinner. Bye for now.

Perhaps I need to reiterate what I wrote in my earlier post, that both Lucy and Edmund got to Narnia three times. So there is no "usual two."
