Narnia at ILM

Postby Guest » 04 Mar 2007, 23:55

I was at Industrial Light & Magic on Friday (George Lucas's special effects company) and they showed a 10 minute film to guests on what they do. Scenes from TLWW were quite prevelent in the presentation. Unfortunately ILM will not be doing the special effects for PC. My friend Dave (who works at ILM) animated many creatures at Aslan's camp and in the battle during for the first movie and animated the creatures in the fire at Tumnus's cave. He's very disappointed he won't be working on PC since he's such a big Narnia fan.

Well, if they did such a great job on LWW, I wonder why they aren't back for PC? Or are the Weta Workshop guys taking over?

Weta doesn't do computer generated effects to my knowledge. An article on the move of the digital effects to a UK based team can be found here: http://movies.ign.com/articles/729/729659p1.html

According to my friend at ILM, many productions are moving their digital special effects to the UK for financial reasons.

Weta and Weta

Postby carol » 06 Mar 2007, 10:04

Allow me to introduce Weta and Weta, the non-identical twins!

Weta Workshops, on my right, makes props, armour, etc. Physical stuff.

Weta Digital, on my left, does the CG magic, uses Massive, creates Gollum using motion capture, and does excellent animation.

And it's all New Zealand talent!! :pleased:

Oh, and here's a picture of a real weta:

Weta Digital will indeed be doing some of the VFX for Prince Caspian. The other houses will be Framestone CFC and The Moving Picture Company.

They seem to be changing VFX houses for business reasons.
