"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best -- " and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.

Firstly, I suggested we "didn't go there" because I am aware that there are a lot of variations in the way different churches or individuals understand some parts of theology, but this is not the moment to have a discussion of those (not because I am not interested in theology, having studied for years for a post-grad degree in it!) but because it will not help this discussion to go off on a tangent.

Secondly, do I really have to define faith? Faith is our response of personal trust as we turn to God in Jesus Christ. It is not merely what we believe, but what we do with it. Will that do, off the cuff?
And of course salvation is not some kind of reward God gives me because of my "faith". I come to Him as a total pauper with nothing but simple hope and trust, with empty hands to receive whatever He will give me. I have a statement somewhere which declares that it is through the occasion of our faith that we access salvation in Christ.

Thirdly, please remember that this is Lewis, not Tolkien, so the small guys are dwarfs, not dwarves. (same in real life - just add -s )
