Narnian Suite

Postby The Quangle Wangle » February 26th, 2009, 4:25 pm

Has anyone else read these two poems? And did you notice that the 'giants march' is actually sung by Tirian in The Last Battle - it refers to it as 'an old marching song' and only gives the chorus, but it's clearly the same. I wonder if Lewis wrote this first and then wrote the song to fit or the other way round?
'It is the Co-operative Cauliflower!' exclaimed the Quangle-Wangle softly in a loud voice.

LB was finished in the spring of 1953 but not published until 1956. "Narnian Suite" was published on November 4, 1953. There is no further evidence about which came first but my guess is that Lewis finished LB first and then got intrigued by the song he write for Tirian, so he finished it and wrote another for the Narnian Suite.
