Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

I want to be one of those beasts--- (with my voice, obviously not the Singing Beast! ) Maybe the dragon, or a Piebald.

Seriously, though: of all Lewis' books, Perelandra is really the best one for adapting to music, with the possible exception of Till We Have Faces. And they really better not have left the Singing Beasts out of it.

I simply cannot imagine Perelandra done as a live production--play, musical, or opera. It would be difficult enough to pull off with all the nudity (green or piebald) even as a movie, if there was ever to be any hope of it being a family film!

This brings to mind an old joke/game of mine and my mom's--we used to imagine the most bizarre movies turned into Broadway shows--it goes something like this:

Jurassic Park, the Musical!
The Hills Have Eyes...on Broadway!!

etc.

LOL

Is that one of your Whidbey Island-made GI Joes, Kanakaberaka? (in your avatar I mean).

Have you seen my Walkabout Whidbey Island thread in the Caffe yet? I just took the pictures yesterday. :)

…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

Interesting idea with the leotards. I had never thought of that. I did get to see Swan Lake in St. Petersburg in 1998--that was pretty cool. We had just about the worst seats in the house, but it was still something to be excited about!

The appearance of nudity is easy to pull off with the right costuming.
