C.S.Lewis play-Need to know where I can find it

Postby Mjarrett » May 14th, 2007, 7:07 am

Last year I had insomnia and was channel surfing on the TV where I came upon a station hosted by U.C. Davis during the midnight hours and usually have political speakers and whatnot (usually things that don't interest me all that much), but this night they had a one man play done by an elderly gentleman, and I immediately recognized it was a C.S.Lewis play. He (the actor, as Lewis) invites the audience to sit down and visit with him, offers them tea, and even talks to an invisible Warnie (his brother) as he leaves to go on his frequent errands. Now, I saw snippits of the one man play "C.S. Lewis On Stage" and it was a different actor and I don't recognize the scenes, so I don't think it was that. SO, does anyone know the name of this production? It was marvelously performed and nearly had me in tears at some points, and I would love to see it again.

I think you saw "An Evening With C.S. Lewis: Dramatic Performance" by David Payne. It was at a Veritas Forum at University of California at Santa Barbara in 2003. It is available for viewing at

I was there.

Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.
