I spent alot of time with Latter Day Saints this summer, and while I am not convinced at all of there believe system, I seem less inclined to wash them off as a cult, and not be considered Christian. The heart of the matter for me really came down to the deprevation of man, sins are a product of the the larger world wide covering disease of sin, which makes sins impossible to rank because to God the wages for any sin is death. But my lds freinds had a tough time accepting that concept, and while practically they had a point after all is rape really equal to stealing a candy from seven eleven? In order to see the true fulfilment of Christ's sacrifice you have to see yourself and all as having the potential to be the worst sinner. Which brings me to the main differences I found I had with them besides the obvious ones like the book of mormon.
1. Concept of Original Sin did'nt match up
2. Concept of Salvation by Faith Alone did'nt match up
While these seem like huge issues how many of us could argue that many other more "popular" christian churches don't really get these concepts either? Say Every Christian church that thinks you have to accept Jesus Christ into your heart in order to be saved? So for now I am undecided on the lds for the differences I see in them, are really no different then differences i see in most modern churches, and I would be crazy not to call them christian right?
