Are people in the UK aware that BBC7 (radio channel) is broadcasting 'Out of the Silent Planet' as a serial at the moment. Unfortunately it is almost over; Ninth out of Twelve episodes to-day. Sky Channel 881 6.00 pm and 12 midnight.

Breaking Radio Silence

Postby Kanakaberaka » August 28th, 2004, 2:09 am

I wonder if the Family Radio Network here in the States might pick up "Out of the Silent Planet" as they did The Chronicles of Narnia? I'd be happy if they did.
so it goes...

You can listen to the current episode at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7/listenagain/friday/rams/1800.ram

You have to have Real Player installed for this to work.
Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

Hmm .. i was NOT aware of this and as this was ages ago, it's probably a bit late to become aware of it ;). i wonder if it will be repeated? How was it?

I am surprised really that noone has ever picked up on the ST and decided to make a film of it. Perhaps with the interest in all things Lewis now that the film has been released, they will.

I have a newpaper article clipping from many years ago in a scrapbook at home that talks about Martin Rosen (the ones who did Watership Down) doing a similar animated version of Out of the Silent Planet. I was so excited when I first read about it, but of course nothing ever came of it.

--Stanley
…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

Hmmm an animation might be good if it could be done WELL (as Watership Down was). In the wrong hands it might be absolutely diabolical of course.

What would be really awful would be for some big Hollywood director to get hold of OOSP and 'jazz it up' and try to turn it into a sci-fi thriller or something .. eek!
