Into the Wardrobe

I always pronounced it Reepy-cheep.

After the initial shock (I could just picture Reep demanding of Eustace or someone "Cake or Death!") I think I'm ok with it. I'm sure Izzard will change his voice a bit anyway.

Also, i pronounce it Reep-a-cheep.

In a book, people can't actually see the characters, so it's necessary to remind the reader from time to time that Reepicheep is a small mouse. Same with a radio drama. Reep's voice in the FotF is pretty high, because in a radio drama, that's all you get, so the sound of his voice alone has to communicate that he's a small mouse.
In a movie, we can see Reep, so it isn't necessary that he have this tiny shrill voice. His voice still has to be a believable mouse voice of course, but it doesn't have to be too high.

Izzard sounds like a great balance of "valiant Reepicheep" and "but he's still a mouse after all." And that balance is one of the things that makes the character so much fun in the book.


All the Narnia audio books say "Reep-ee-cheep." And I've always imagined it that way. We can always call him Reep though, haha.

Listen to yourself though - are you saying "Ree-pee-cheep" ?

It may be what you are trying to say, but it's very difficult for normal English speakers to do, because it slows down their speaking. An unstressed syllable seldom has a long strong vowel.

Just for the record, I am not to be called Pee-pee-Seek.
I pronounce it Peep-a-cheek even though Eddie Izzard would say "theres no [flipping] H in it" because it makes a 'consothingummy' with Reepicheep.
