…on a night of rain Frodo smelled a sweet fragrance on the air and heard the sound of singing that came over the water. And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a fair green country under a swift sunrise.

Psyche was sacrificed for her beauty and Christ certainly was not. Doesn't it say in Isaiah that the Messiah would have nothing physically to commend him? I dunno if comparisons between Psyche and Christ quite work for me. I do not think that Psyche is the one who suffers in the novel, for one thing. She goes willingly and un-flinchingly to her death - that much is similar.

"I don't care if it is wrong," said one of the moles. "I'd do it again."
"Hush, hush" said the other animals.
