I have met a few people who tended to be intellectually dishonest , and were quite aware of their dishonesty.
I have met a much larger number of people who I thought were intellectually dishonest without being aware of it–not at least in their ‘topmost’ consciousness.
How far could I trust either type of ‘dishonest’ person? As for the first type, not far–not for anything important. As for the second type, it depended. Frankly, I’ve regarded many Christians as belonging to this type. But some of them I found to be very trustworthy in some or even in most circumstances.
The most trustworthy people I have met were certain agnostics: people who said “About most religious and some philosophical matters, I really don’t know, and I’m not sure whether anyone can really know.”–yet acted with great kindness and integrity toward others . My trust in the four or five people of this type I have known was never seriously disappointed.
