I finally got the Expelled trailer to play on UTube. Woohoo!

Definitely a biased piece. It always pits the very general "elegant" version of ID (which is not ID theory per se but is the older "Argument from Design" here focused on evidence for divine action in details of genetics) against a false version of evolution ("everything results from random chance") which no scientist actually believes in. This is then followed by a play to paranoia (basically "you will be expelled for watching this film") designed to bring in audiences.

Oh well. At least I got some names so I can see where this all comes from.

According to Wikipedia, an article titled "The origin of biological information and the higher taxonomic categories", originally released in Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington but later retracted, triggered the events in Expelled. The following is supposedly the article, though it is on a non-neutral web site.

The Wikipedia article for its author is here:

It contains references with footnotes to some of the events. I cannot vouch for the authenticity of either the Wikipedia article of the web page at Discovery.org. I know that Stephen Meyer's associate Phillip Johnson is not "good at" biology, but Meyer is supposedly trained in geology and philosophy of science.

I haven't reviewed any of this yet. That comes later.
