Audiobooks?

Postby Elentari » January 8th, 2006, 10:58 am

Has anyone listened to the unabridged audiobook series? (Is there more than one? Which is best, if so?) I was at Barnes and Noble, and saw a set with Kenneth Branagh reading MN and Derek Jacobi another, and so on. Is it any good? 'Cause I'd quite like an unabridged Narnia, but don't want to spend that sort of money without knowing what I'm in for!

TIA!

There's always the Focus on the Family Radio Theatre productions. :) With the exception of the voice for Aslan, I think they're outstanding. You can find a few other discussions here about it and the other audiobooks. Just search.

I have the LWW radio production. And I'm glad someone else thinks the Aslan voice on there is not quite right :). All the other voices are wonderful but his.

I have a unabridged series, but mine doesn't have Claire Bloom. On mine it's Kenneth Branagh, Michael York, Alex Jennings, Lynn Rengrave, Derek Jacobi, Jeremy Northam, and Patrick "Make it so" Stewart ;). They are very good, and my daughter loves listening to them.

When they first came out, I emailed Doug Gresham and basically said "What's up with that??" -- he told me "how difficult it is for a voice actor to portray a lion, etc, etc..."

*sigh*

They would have been SO much better if they'd have given Michael Dorn a chance. :p

Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.
