As I noted in another thread, I heard Douglas Gresham speak at a book signing, and he stated that he would love to produce all seven books as films, but it will depend on the success of each individual film. If they make enough with the first, they'll make the next; if they make enough with that one, they'll make another, etc.

If you look at it that way, they won't be making the next, because LWW hasn't even broken even yet. Disney may not look at it as a success, but Walden Media has a different set of rules for what they call a success, and they feel they've made a very good family film, end of story, let's make the next one now.

Disney may disagree, saying they haven't sold enough Happy Meals, but Disney doesn't have distribute the others if they don't want to.

erm, that's $500 million, not $5 million, Esther, and it's ticket sales, not profit. A sizeable chunk, about half, goes to the theaters that show the movies. About 10 per cent is consumed by the distributors. Somewhere around 35 to 40 per cent goes back to the movie's makers, and from that they still have to subtract advertising and miscellaneous expenses. Then they subtract the cost of actually making the movie.

So far, Walden and Disney have not made back the $180 million they put into the movie, though they do expect to. That's why Prince Caspian has been green lighted to start pre-production.
Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

Then said Littleheart son of Bronweg: "Alas for Gondolin."
And no one in the Room of Logs spake or moved for a great while.
Pro published order! Poster of The Wardrobe's 40,000th post. That earns no merit, but I feel pretty cool about it anyway.

The havn't released the DVD yet and I sure people will be buying that. I know I will be. That's more money for them to add up. Am I wrong or wright?
Without my friends or cousins, I don't make sense. Life would be somewhere not worth my time.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Not only that...but once it hits the rental stores also...I can see the profits gaining :)
Today I went to IKEA and hid in the wardrobes, and every time someone opened the doors I welcomed them to Narnia!!

"Jill," said Tirian, "you are the bravest and most wood-wise of all my subjects, but also the most malapert and disobedient."
"By the Mane!" he whispered to Eustace. "This girl is a wondrous wood-maid. If she had Dryad's blood in her she could scarce do it better." - The Last Battle
