I've got some speculations on this subject but I'd rather defer to more senior members first.
I will say that the actual origin of the lamp-post (as well as the faun with packages) came from a dream C.S. Lewis had at age 16.
But I still think there is some typological significance to the lamp-post, even if unintentional
