Pevensey Castle

Postby Leslie » March 26th, 2006, 7:04 pm

I just read that Pevensey Castle in Sussex was Lewis' inspiration for Cair Paravel. Has anyone visited it?

Read where?
Rat! he found breath to whisper, shaking. Are you afraid?
Afraid? murmured the Rat, his eyes shining with unutterable love.
Afraid! Of Him? O, never, never! And yet -- and yet -- O, Mole, I am afraid!
Then the two animals, crouching to the earth, bowed their heads and did worship.

Someone who lives in Sussex - perhaps it is local knowledge. Lewis did walk through Sussex.

The connection with Lewis may be a local legend - I was hoping that someone who had been there might have been able to give more info, maybe from a tour guide or talking with a local person. Oh well - I'll just have to go there myself. :)
